Cel Animation! Animators, please help?
my question is simple. what kind of ink or paint was used on cels to make shadows.i can take on making darker shades on clothes, but still im baffled by the way they originally added shadows cast by the characters. they are usually transparent and practically flawless when u look at how it doesnt distort the background.

thats a prime example of what im trying to achieve. if anyone has answers or suggestions as to what i can use it would be a great help. thank you!
I think it is the same idea as the clothes::it looks to me as all they did was use a darker shade of green.
try following the contours of the background, instead of letting the shadows run over it.
