Five years ago, scientists completed a study that confirmed that today, and the every 3rd Monday in January each year, is the most depressing. While this is not based on hard facts, the measurements used in the study do seem appropriate and if the study was carried out over a number of years then maybe it has some credibility.
The formula is constructed by variables like temperature and rainfall, the time elapsed since Christmas - read the time spent back at work, the fact that most new year's resolutions are out the window and that fact that many are in mountains of debt after paying out for xmas pressies.
